DTech has a pattern of complaints concerning credit and billing disputes. Consumers allege they receive a bill for a collect call that was not accepted. One consumer states “I was billed $3.41 and there was a late payment due of $29.00 due to not paying the last month’s bill. I didn’t accept a collect call from a jail in Lynchburg, VA” The company has resolved some complaints presented to the Bureau; however some complaints remain unresolved.

September 18, 2007, The State of Texas through Attorney General Greg Abbott filed a PLAINTIFF'S ORIGINAL PETITION AND APPLICATION FOR TEMPORARY AND PERMANENT INJUNCTION & REQUESTS FOR DISCOVERY. The petition was filed in the District Court of Tarrant County, Texas.

According to court documents, DTech Billing Service used unlawful collection tactics and deceptive trade practices on behalf of several telecommunications companies that provide pay phone services, including collect calls, from inmates and other pay phone users.
